Paying it forward with Leah Forney

I am so pleased to have the chance to interview Leah. We met while classmates in John Jay College. Leah is the most down to earth person I have ever met. She has not let her circumstances or her past hold her down or back.

Introducing Ms. Leah Forney

Sheri: Introduce yourself to the world. Who is Leah Forney?

Leah: My name is Leah Forney. I am 28 years old African American female. I am a native of Queens/Brooklyn, New York. I am a graduate of John Jay College of Criminal Justice in which I majored in Criminal Justice. I currently reside in Durham, North Carolina. I am a caregiver, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. I am an actress. I am a graduate student at Capella University in which I will be receiving my masters in Marriage & Family Therapy. I am a speaker of domestic violence and sexual assault in which I have survived both. I will soon be business owner of F.A.I.T.H. F.L.Y.S.

Sheri: What is the name of your business and what role do you play in it?

Leah: F.A.I.T.H. F.L.Y.S. Stands for Firmly And Intimately Trusting Him (God), Forever Loving Yourselves. It's a mentoring program that I along with my partner Hazel Barker are establishing to help guide our young people through life. It will service the population of the ages of 7 to 19. We feel those are critical ages in which we struggle with identity crisis and figuring out to who we are. At 15, I lost my virginity. By 19 I was in a domestic violence situation. I did many things looking for love to solve my mommy and daddy issues because they were drug addicts who didn't raise me. I am the CEO & Co-Founder of my business.

Sheri: Did you know as a child that you wanted to own a business?

Leah: As a child, I knew I wanted to impact change in people's lives. I knew that if I overcame every obstacle I went through then I was destined to help others through their obstacles. I knew I would be my own boss someday.

Sheri: Was it harder or easier than you expected to start your own business?

Leah: Since I am in the ground stages of establishing my business, I was say it is harder to run your business because it requires a lot of research, time, energy, and legal documentations to make it official.

Sheri: If you could change one thing about your business, what would it be?

Leah: If I could change one thing for my business, it would probably be making sure there's parental involvement with the children that I will be mentoring.

Sheri: Do you have any advice for aspiring entrepreneurs?

Leah: My advice to aspiring entrepreneurs will be (1) Research, Research, Research (2) Discover your niche and how you can make it profitable. (3) Keep your faith in God. If He gave you the vision, the provision has already been provided.

Sheri: Where can potential clients find your business information?

Leah: Potential Clients or Customers can email me at coachbyleahmichelle@gmail.com or leah.forney@yahoo.com. You can find me on Facebook at Leah Michelle or Twitter @LeahForney

Strength comes from within

Hello I wanted to formally introduce myself. Often times on we get so wrapped up we dont stop to simply say hello. Here is a little about me, KS Oliver.
The mother, the author and the person
K.S. Oliver is an author, poet, public speaker, model and business owner who was born in New York and raised in Georgia. At 30 years old, she is blazing a trail that many have been inspired by. The oldest of eleven children, K.S. graduated from Georgia Medical Institute with a diploma in Medical Billing and Coding in 2005 as well as Colorado Technical College in 2011 with an a degree in Business (while minoring in Criminal Justice). Since then, she’s been moving forward with building a unique and touching legacy.
On May 20, 2010, following the birth of her youngest child, K.S. was diagnosed with SLE, also known as Lupus. Subsequently, she was also diagnosed with Discoid Lupus (Skin Lupus), Fibromyalgia, Pulmonary Fibrosis, Hypotension, Hypothyroids, Cricoarytenoiditis and Severe depression. With a myriad of health issues staring her in the face at the age of 25, K.S. had to make a decision on whether she would allow it to consume her or fight for the life she and her family deserved to enjoy. The choice soon turned into a mantra commonly used when discussing her life:” I have Lupus. Lupus doesn’t have me.” Taking her life story and using it to inspire others, K.S. has penned two poetry books dedicated to building a connection from one Lupie to another and helping others to understand the emotions and trials that a Lupus patient may endure. Still Standing and Affectionately 360 are poetic gems that are touching for patients of any kind, but also speak to the hearts of every individual who reads them. In 2013, K.S. was awarded as Poet of the Year for her outstanding contributions to the field of poetry.
In 2014 K.S. released her first novel, FLATLINED: Almost Doesn’t Count, which was inspired by her truth. FLATLINED was ceremoniously released on the four (4) year anniversary of her diagnosis. She decided to take a leap and let the world read her rhymes of reason due to several people suggesting that she share her complete story after experiencing fragments of her memories via her poetry.
Despite the plethora of times that she’s been cut, poked, jabbed, hospitalized, and operated on K.S. is not only still standing, but she is constantly thriving. In 2011 she created her first business entity, Events by Ebonee, which prides itself on cultivating quality, memorable events at affordable rates throughout the Atlanta area. True to her literary passion and experience, in 2014 K.S. started her own publishing company, Diamante Publications, in which her star only began to shine brighter within the literary community.
With all of her success and accomplishments, K.S.’s greatest achievement is centered on her two sons, Sha’Kwan and K’Shaun. Through everything she does, she incorporates the children including her literary ventures. In 2013 the boys released their first book Through Our Eyes, a glimpse into the life of a Lupie kid. With each year that passes, K.S. finds more innovative ways to reach and touch the masses with her powerful story of strength and overcoming. Via interviews, book signings, meet and greets, modeling opportunities, and simply networking, she is able to increase awareness and expand her love for helping others. God’s amazing grace has spared her from death more times than any one person deserves and even still she is here continuing to walk in his glory.
